The Fantasy Masquerade 2010 - Much Edo About
Nothing: A Fowl Fairytale
Do you want to hear a story?
Life itself is a story, written by an unseen hand. The outcome of your life, be
it wondrous or tragic, is based upon a whim from this unknown scribe. But what
if he had a reason for his rhymes, a higher purpose worth striving for?
Join us at the fifth annual Fantasy Masquerade, where the young scribe Fakia
will write a story that will come to life before your very eyes. You will bear
witness as he brings closure to a story untouched by time; a story of rival
clans and the marriage that will unite them. But what if Katsushiro, the samurai
prince, will not marry for power alone? What if the daughter of Gennosuke, the
ninja lord, were to disappear before the arranged meeting? Can Fakia's unseen
hand guide his characters to their happy ending?
Proper dress to
The Fantasy Masquerade includes formal style costumes, formal
ball gowns, tuxedos, shirt and tie, etc (PG-13). Examples of inappropriate
attire: revealing costumes, denims of ANY sort, sneakers, tank tops, sandals,
etc. If you can't/won't wear it to church, a nice school dance, or METROCON,
don't wear it to The Fantasy Masquerade. Masks are also required for
admission to this event. If you do not have one, you will be able to purchase
one prior to the event for a small fee.
This is a separate ticketed event. Tickets are ten dollars and available
online or at registration.

What is The Fantasy Masquerade about?
The Fantasy Masquerade is a formal dance with an interactive story told
throughout the entire evening by a cast of characters. The story can range from
being on stage, out in the audience, to video footage. This makes the story more
accessible from the audience point of view.
How much is The Fantasy Masquerade?
The Fantasy Masquerade admission is $10. This is not included in a Friday
one-day pass or a regular weekend pass to METROCON. If you have purchased
a METROCON VIP Ticket, however, your admission is included with your
VIP
pass. If you wish to ONLY attend The Fantasy Masquerade and not the convention
itself, you are able to purchase your ticket to The Fantasy Masquerade without a
pass to METROCON.
I just want to go to the Masquerade, do I have to also pay for a normal
METROCON ticket?
If you are coming to METROCON for ONLY the Masquerade, all you have to buy at
registration is a ticket for the Masquerade. You do not need a normal METROCON single
day or weekend pass to get into the Masquerade. Of course, you won't be able to
get into anything else at the convention and a Masquerade ticket won't get you
into any of the other functions at the convention. Again, the ticket
is ONLY good for The Fantasy Masquerade.
Where do I get my ticket to the Fantasy Masquerade?
You purchase your Fantasy Masquerade ticket at METROCON Registration,
or pre-register your ticket online. Tickets to the Masquerade may be purchased
when you either pick up your Pre-Registered ticket or an at-the-door ticket. If
you pre-register your masquerade ticket, you can pick it up where you would pick
up your METROCON pre-register ticket. The ticket is in the form of a
wristband that MUST be worn on the wrist to enter The Fantasy Masquerade,
and not attached to your clothing, prop, or bags.
What if I do not want to wear my Fantasy Masquerade wristband on my wrist,
but on another part of my costume, or on a prop?
The Fantasy Masquerade wristband MUST be worn securely around the wrist.
No other location will be permitted. No previous Fantasy Masquerade wristbands
or METROCON one-day pass wristbands will give you admittance into this
year's Fantasy Masquerade.

please, email fantasymasquerade@gmail.com or post in the

FAQ:
Are masks required for
admittance?
Yes. Masks are required for
admittance. If you do not have one, there will be some available outside the
ballroom for a small fee before the event, as well as a Mask-Making Panel before
the event (small cover charge for materials). Be creative in your masks, make
them match your costume or outfit...there may be a fun surprise waiting for you
if your mask stands out!
Do I have to wear my mask all
night?
This is a masquerade dance so we
suggest wearing your mask all evening. We do understand that some people may
have to remove their mask for certain reasons and that is their personal choice.
I wear glasses, and I don’t
want to attach the mask to them. Can I keep my mask on a stick so I can just
carry it all night?
Of course! All styles of masks
are welcome at The Fantasy Masquerade.
I have a great Halloween mask
that makes it look like I was shot in the head! Can I wear that?
No. This is a formal event, so
grotesque and macabre masks are inappropriate. If you arrive with such a mask,
you will be asked to purchase a proper mask.
I would love to wear a gas mask
or goggles with my Steampunk costume. Is that okay?
Only if it corresponds with your
costume. For example, a princess would not be usually walking around with a gas
mask on.
The character I want to cosplay
does not have any formal outfits! Can I still wear that character?
You are encouraged to create your
own formal attire for any character. METROCON enjoys and encourages
seeing the creativity of its patrons! Perhaps a tiger-striped gown with fur trim
for a formal version of Lum; or maybe black dress pants, a white button up
shirt, black boots, and the signature red jacket for Formal Travis Touchdown;
the possibilities are endless! If it is appropriate for a formal event, it is
appropriate for The Fantasy Masquerade!
What sort of music should we
expect to hear at the Fantasy Masquerade?
Expect to hear an eclectic mix of
music, ranging from Instrumental to Rock and everything in between. Music is
chosen to fit the current theme and several Ballroom-style dances.
But I want to rave! Will you
play that?
No. The Fantasy Masquerade
is a Formal Ballroom Dance, so the music will fit Ballroom Dance styles (or the
theme chosen). If you
wish to rave, please, feel free to attend the several raves scheduled at
METROCON.
May we request music?
If you have a song that you wish
to hear at The Fantasy Masquerade, please email it to
fantasymasquerade@gmail.com for
consideration. All songs are chosen to fit a theme, time frame, and Ballroom
Dance styles. If your suggestion does not fit these criteria (or it does not
fit a PG-13 rating), it, unfortunately, cannot be played at The Fantasy
Masquerade. No requests will be taken at the event itself, as the song
schedule is chosen in advance to fit a certain time frame.
I am a little worried about the
safety of my purse and other belongings. Is there anywhere I can store it
during the Fantasy Masquerade?
Yes! DJ Shadowfax and his
team will have “Stuff Check” available for a small fee. Check in your valuables and they will remain safe for the night! If
you choose not to utilize this service, METROCON is not responsible for
the loss of any of your belongings. Do not believe people if they tell you that
it's safe to put your belongings in any location other than Stuff Check!
I really don’t want to wear my
wristband all night. Can I keep it in my purse?
No. The admission wristband
MUST be worn on the wrist for the entire event. If you are seen not wearing
a wristband, you will be asked to leave the Main Ballroom.
If there is no one on the
stage, may I dance up there?
No. We are sorry, but no one is
permitted on the various stages during The Fantasy Masquerade.
But my friends who are in the
Masquerade are singing on stage. Are you SURE I can't jump up there and
join in with them? It'll be really cool!
No, if you are not in the cast of The Fantasy Masquerade you are not allowed
on stage.
One of the actors in the cast
is walking through the audience and singing. It seems I or others may
possibly be in their way. What should I do? Should I move out of the
way or just stand there?
If you see that the actor is having trouble moving through the audience,
please help them by moving or asking others to move so they can continue their
performance.
I saw someone sneak in/in
inappropriate attire/et cetera, what do I do?
Please consult security if you see
anything suspicious.
